The number of Spelling Bee Words you need to know if you want to win the famous Scripps National Spelling Bee is growing every year.
Even if you're just preparing for a smaller event, smart preparation is key!
Most of the finalists have prepared intensively for years before making it to the primetime TV broadcast. LearnThatWord was started by parents looking for top-notch tutoring support for their children.
The spelling quiz speaks the word in question, and provides definition and sample sentence, just like a spelling bee.
The answer screen also offers a lot of additional information to help you memorize the word, among them root word tips and origin.
If you struggle with a word, or mark a word for review, these spelling bee words are added to your personal practice list. They will be re-introduced in future quizzes until you get them right, every time, without doubt. Only if you truly mastered the word is it removed from your practice cycle.
This helps you manage this large amount of words you need to study. You always spend the right amount of time on words that still need practice.
Containing close to 30,000 typical spelling bee words, this module automatically includes the words from the Consolidated Word list, previous Paideia lists, Rechtschreibungsspiel words, and words from recent National Spelling Bees.
Similar to what you experience as you go higher and higher levels in the contest, we sort words by frequency (how likely they are to appear in a competition). This means you first review the most common, then the less common, and finally the really exotic words. In each category, words are tagged by difficulty, so you advance from easy to advanced automatically.
If you’re preparing for a local event, or simply plan to stage a classroom event with your students, you can easily activate one of our many spelling bee word lists from the archive.
